Prism Opera
Prism Opera was
founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Thomas
Stumpf and Executive Director Arthur
Rishi.
Prism
Opera is committed to producing effective and moving productions of operatic
masterpieces, with a special emphasis onÊneglected works and on twentieth century
repertoire. Prism brings each opera's essential human drama into sharp focus,
allowing music and drama to speak as one. Prism Opera is an 'ensemble' company.
As in a repertory theatre, casting is based on how well each singer will work
as part of the overall ensemble of the opera, not on the vocal 'star' system.
Singers are featured in various productions year after year sometimes in leading
roles, sometimes in supporting roles fostering a long-term relationship between
artists, director, and audience. Prism's most recent productions have included
Vanessa by Samuel Barber, The Rape of Lucretia and The Turn
of the Screw by Benjamin Britten, Riders to the Sea by Vaughan Wiliams, and Savitri by Holst.
Administratively, Prism Opera is committed to the goal of fiscal responsibility
while still maintaining high artistic standards. Though we intend to expand
both the number and scope of productions in future years, we believe that in
today's financial and cultural environment, an opera company must be built slowly
and allowed to evolve.
Prism Opera is a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations to Prism are fully tax-deductible. To make a donation to Prism Opera, please send a check to
